How We Started…
Candee Williams, born and raised in Philadelphia, has always been obsessed with fashion since childhood. She began designing for her Barbie dolls at just 5yrs old. She would make dresses out of socks and swimsuits from balloons. By the time she was 10, Candee would customize denims and leathers using chains, ropes and studs from the hardware store, and making tops from fabric or scarves.
In high school she majored in graphic design and met her graphic design instructor, who was a former Fashion Major. Instead of teaching Candee the graphic design curriculum, she began teaching and grading on fashion design elements; purchasing Candee her very first sewing machine and light table.
At times, creating plans and setting goals don’t always align with what the universe has in store. Candee majored in Fashion Design and later changed her major to Healthcare Administration. She worked in the fields of healthcare and law for several years, earning 3 degrees; Bachelor of Science degree, MBA and MHA. She realized her personality did not fit the corporate world. She decided to walk away from her field and return to what has always been true to her, uplifting others through style and fashion.
Why Conceited?
Conceited was a derogatory word they associated with her for being different. She knew she was something else, but she never believed she was conceited. Coming from a place where confidence is often misread, judged and looked down upon. Believing there was no room for negativity and not allowing others’ judgments to define her, she decided to uplift and encourage other girlies, boosting their confidence to see their beautiful individuality. No longer playing “dress up” with friends or having glam sleepovers, Candee has set out to uplift Conceited Cuties worldwide by inspiring them to Keep it Confident, and never dim their light. What started as a small idea to redefine negativity quickly grew into a movement.
